Why Smarter?
With already high and rising energy costs, and increasing cost of our
natural resources, it is becoming progressively more important to
utilize building practices that reduce a home's energy consumption
and the natural resources it consumes.
Building smarter means more than controlling energy costs. By becoming smarter in the way we build our homes we make them more comfortable to live in while also:
- Increasing your return on investment. Torrey Building Systems is
committed to understanding the market and providing smarter
building products. We offer products that will increase the value
of your home and provide a return on investment through
performance. We are excited about the opportunities available
for today's building market.
- Increasing energy efficiency. Energy efficiency is driving the green building trend for environmental and monetary reasons. 40% or your monthly energy bill could be attributed to air leakage in the building's envelope. That's a lot of wasted energy and money!
Effective energy conservation measures usually increase building costs, but significant savings in operating costs-usually repaying the investment relatively quickly. Additionally, the money saved in downsizing tonnage requirements of the HVAC system allow the Builder or Homeowner to invest that money saved in more energy efficient HVAC equipment (Higher SEER).
- Improving indoor air quality. Indoor air pollution levels can be five times higher than outside air. Icynene ®, a healthy alternative to conventional insulation, completely seals the building envelop and provides a protective barrier preventing allergens, dust, and mold spores from entering the home without the harmful elements associated with other insulations.
- Utilizing environmentally responsible materials. Building materials are considered environmentally friendly if they are renewable, reusable, recyclable or non-toxic. They also must not contain ozone-depleting HCFCs, VOCs, and toxins like benzene and arsenic. Additionally, the process in which the materials are manufactured and transported must have a low environmental impact.
- Promoting conservation. Whatever material you’re using, you can reduce environmental impact and cut costs by simply using less of it. Optimizing material usage within production of any product is another step toward Green building.
- Enjoying stylish design that works hard. Green building no longer means sacrificing design or a large investment without return. Attractive green building products that also provide a measurable return on your investment are now readily available.
